Mood Board- Colours analysis

Mood board- colours analysis
For the colours of my magazine I either want to go bright or dark with a pop of colour I have made some examples that I have put on my mood board accompanied by the inspiration that I have behind them. I really want to have something fun without making it too girly; I think that this will attract people towards it and away from other dull boring music magazines.  Also think that this would represent the type of content that will be inside my magazine. I think that any of the examples that I have put on my mood would look really good on a music magazine and really stand out.

Mood Board- Target Audience Analysis

Mood board- target audience analysis
The target audience age range that I am going for, for my magazine is 16-25 year old that are into urban-mainstream music such as Azealia Banks, ROCKY A$AP, Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey. My magazine would appeal to both male and female but more prominently females. The kind of people who read my magazine would like to dress in brands such as Urban Outfitters, The Ragged Priest, Wildfox Couture and Commes Des Fuckdown as these are all urban street wear brands I think that both these brands are very on trend and this is the kind of target audience that I am going for a very ~fashionable~ type of audience. I want my magazine to be affordable to people of the age range but also not too cheap because I would like for the people to buy the magazine to have a genuine interest on the kind of thing that is being written about inside the magazine and a regular buyer not just something that they buy just because it is cheap. I want my target audience to the similar to that of wonderland magazine I think that this is a really good magazine that I have taken some inspiration from.

Mood Board- Fonts Analysis

Mood board 2- fonts’ analysis
For my fonts mood board I have gone for a theme if old school American font I think that these are all classic fonts because most of the music in my magazine will be American and I really like the vibe that they give off, I think that they will help attract my target audience of school/collage/university type age which is what I am going for. I really like the fact that all of the fonts that I have chosen for my mood board are monochrome because I and to have really bright images on the front covers of my magazines so I think that this will balance it out also black and white font will go with whatever id on the front cover and all of the images within the magazine. I think that all of these fonts that I have on my mood board are very bold and would be really good on a magazine front over because they stand out and make the title clear. I think that if these font were on the front of another more established music magazine if one issue you happened to have a plain colourless cover then if you made the font of the title of the magazine then it would look really good in these fonts still and you would still be able to identify which magazine it is from the bold font.

Mood Board Analysis- Advertisers

Mood board 1-   advertisers
I have chosen these brands because I think that they represent the target audience that I am trying to attract to my magazine I think that if someone bought my magazine, these are the type of things that they would be willing to buy in real life. One of the brands that I have chosen is Urban Outfitters; this is a clothing shop that I think my target audience would shop in as they sell an arrangement of different urban clothes, new and also vintage therefore they would be a good advertiser for my music magazine. I have also chosen Kopparberg to go on my mood board because I think that this is one of the brands the people who read my magazine would drink. I think that TV programmes such as fresh meat would be a good advertisement because I think the people who read my magazine would be older teens and that is the kind of humour that is in this programme. I think that my magazine would appeal to both male and female genders but more so to girls so I have put down the brad ESSIE who sell nail polish because everyone knows all girls love to have their nails done!  On my advertisers mood board I also have more than one apple product, this is because whether have loads of money or not you are still going to be begging your parents for the latest iphone to impress your friends with and parents love to see their children happy so this is why I think that these products would apply to the audience.

Questionnaire analysis
After receiving the completed questionnaires we came to the conclusion that 55%of people who answered it we females and 45% were male. 70% out the people who answered the questionnaire said that they would not read the college magazine unless it was free and 50% of people said that they would like the magazine monthly. 80% said that they read their school email regularly; this is good because this allows us to be able to target our audience directly so we can tell them things such as when the magazine is coming out and what the issue is surrounding. 25% said that they would be interested in contributing to the magazine, this may not sound a lot but when applied to the 1600 students attending EN it is actually a lot of people prepared to get involved. The main topics that people said they would like to hear about in the magazine are music, sport, events and trips. They also said that they would like bright images on the front cover taken by the media students. 100% of college student said they do not read the current college magazine.

College magazine cover analysis
This
college magazine is targeted towards college student, it has a bold header telling you the name of the magazine which is slightly covered by the image, this shows that the magazine is well known and can be easily identified even though it is slightly obscured.
The cover has lots of information of the cover telling you what is inside the magazine and also includes a brightly coloured splat image that stands out from the rest of the cover which tells you something extra important .
The layout is very simple with the mid shot image in the middle the text of the magazine name along the top and then the information around the edges. The colour scheme is also very simple with the black white and green, but then the addition splat of pink gives it a pop of something eye catching.
As always the magazine has the barcode, the price and the issue number on the cover. These are always needed for different purposes. The guy on the front portrays an image of happy and wellbeing with his positive body language and the way he is holding his books.

Music magazine contents page analysis 1
I love the layout of this contents page I think that all the areas a fill with the right amount of ‘stuff’ so there isn’t loads of things all over the page and there also isn’t and dead space even though the page is quite minimalistic. The image on this contents page is very attractive to men who are probably the main target audience; men see this image of a woman and want to see more inside so continue to read. There are sub heading for the different types of articles, for instance ‘features’ and ‘fashion’ so you know what article is about what.
On this contents page it tells you that it is not the only contents page by writing 1/3 to show that there is two more page to go and that is not the only pages.
The colours on this page are very neutral and not in your face at all. All of the colours are very nude and a lot are just different shades of the same colour with lots of shadows making it look very sultry.
It states that it is the contents page at the top in the biggest letters that you know what it is. I really like way that they have done this kind of abstractly because it adds something to the page but mainly because it fits better with the image.

magazine cover analysis 3

Music magazine cover analysis - Vibe

This cover if from the magazine “Vibe
This cover is aimed at men this is obvious straight away from the image on the front cover the fact that it is an over sexualised picture of a woman means that it would be more suited for men. The position she is in is very taunting and like she is looking down on your making you think that she wants you to ‘come and get her’. The main text next to the image says “BeyoncĂ© strips down.” Suggesting the images on the front are only a snippet of what may be inside which is a way of pulling in your audience.
Vibe’s title is big and uses very simple, bold text. Red is a colour that sticks out to humans and is very easy to read, this makes the magazine much more noticeable. I also think that the colour goes well with the image because red shows passion and I think that the image is very passionate also the facial expressions given and the position she is standing in is only a tiny bit of why this is but mainly because of the fact that her body is wet and her cloths are stuck to her and are also see through.
The colour scheme of the cover is very simple, it is red, black and white the only strange thing about it is the same piece of text in orange telling you to download something I think that I like this because it stands out from all the other text and the image and makes you want to read it as it is trying to sell you something that is not the magazine.
At the top of the magazine it shows a few of the kind of artists that are features inside the magazine which should give you a good idea of the kind of thing that is inside the magazine and show you whether you want to buy it or not. This also pulls you into wanting to read the rest of the magazine if you see something that you like on the front of the magazine.

magazine cover analysis 2

Music magazine cover analysis – Rolling Stone
This magazine cover is from the magazine “Rolling Stone
This magazine cover has a colour scheme of white, yellow and black. The colour yellow signifies intelligence and joy. In the image the main person isn’t looking at the camera which is unusual for magazine covers as they like to be looking straight at the camera so it seems that they are looking at the reader and connecting with them. I think that the reason that the cover image does not have the model looking at the camera is because it is showing off the tattoos on the eyes that give the magazine a bit of a hard core edge saying about ‘fear’ and ‘good’. On the cover some of the header of the magazine is covered by a flyer advertisement, rolling stone can do this because they are such an iconic brand and well known around the world. They can also do this because they have the title in the same font, size and position of the title each week therefore it is easily recognised.
They have used white writing with a black out line so that it will contrast with both the darker and lighter parts of the cover I think that the writing sits very well along the left hand side of the magazine but it does leave the cover with a bit of dead space on the left hand side which I think could have been filled with something. The bar code is tucked down the bottom, left hand side out of the way of all of the other features on the cover.
On the front of the magazine there are sneak peeks of what will be inside the magazine to try and catch your eye to pull you in and get you to buy it., this is a very effective method as it can mean that if you don’t have an interest in what is on the front cover you might still see something that you like and won’t be put off at first glance. The little advertisements have been set out so that they are separated but small tallow lines that tie in with the yellow Rolling Stone title. I think that this gives a little extra to the cover and give a bit more colour to the slightly monochrome dark picture.

magazine cover analysis 1

Music magazine cover analysis - Clash

This magazine cover is from the magazine “Clash”.
I think that it channels simplicity and a big focus on the main feature. At the top of the cover it gives you a little teaser as to what is inside the magazine, this lures you into buying it as it catches your eye. The cover is not over loaded with tons of information and I think that this makes the cover look very chic and sophisticated,  this suggests it is targeted at the higher end of the middle class and the older generations. The colurs are also very classic with a scheme of black, white and gold which is obviously kept to a minimum.
This magazine makes it very clear from the titles that it has cotent related to The Beatles but it kind of ‘clashes’ as it has Jay-Z on the front and they are both from not only different musical genres but also very different eras, which gives the magazine an unusual twist but would also probably be hard to find a decent sized audience with this acquired taste.
The effects on the main image are very dark and sultery, this signafies mystery and makes you want to look inside to find out more about the artist on the front. It also promises that Jay-z will ’reveal all’ which is very unlikely with him being such a huge star but it makes you want to fnd it all out and want to buy it and read inside as it makes you inquizative want to know what he is willing to tell.
the main text on the cover is related to the main image and I think that this is shown well and is not to be mixed up. It seems that all the writing at the top of the cover is directed at talking about the beatles and the text at the bottom of the cover is again related to the cover artist Jay-z. The text on the cover is shown in three different fonts there is the font of the title, the font of the sub titles which are all italics and then lastly the writing of the make of the artist Jay-z is begger than the rest to signafy it it is the most improtant.
